“A Grand Day Out”
Bowness on Windermere 11th September 2021
The band went on a coach outing to the Lake District to support a charity event. A selection of music was played to celebrate the completion of a 100 mile run, from Leeds to The Glebe at Bowness on Windermere, by Tash and Caz. They were raising funds for ‘BAGS for Strife’, (click here to visit the site) a charity to support anybody affected by suicide.
The bandstand, as seen in the photograph above, overlooks Lake Windermere and is styled as a leaf supported by two trees.
One of the pieces played was the theme from ‘Postman Pat’, as the series location is based on a village near Kendal.
“And the band played on”
Last Night of the Proms 7th August 2021
Postponed from last year, due to the Covid pandemic, Slaidburn Silver Band performed The Last Night of the Proms Concert on the bandstand in the Clitheroe Castle Memorial Park Grounds. This was the first concert the band had been able to give for 18 months.
The very wet weather did not dampen the enjoyment of the audience, but did reduce their numbers, compared to drier, past years. It also forced the concert to be a little shorter than originally planned.
Deep Harmony (the Bandsman’s Hymn) was played to open the performance in remembrance of those who lost their lives to Covid and for members of the band who had passed away during the recent restrictions.
The British Legion March was played in recognition of The Legion’s 100 year anniversary. Other pieces included Elton John’s ‘Crocodile Rock’ and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Love Changes Everything’, as well as the traditional Last Night favourites.
Rehearsals Resume - Take 2
27th May 2021
The band has finally been able to hold a rehearsal, which still had to be socially distanced and follow Covid Safety Guidelines.
The rehearsal began with Deep Harmony, the Bandsman’s hymn. Other pieces practiced on the night were for inclusion in the band’s summer repertoire.
At this time the band cannot confirm any future engagements. These will depend upon the relaxation of Covid restrictions.
Happy New Year (or should that be ‘Lockdown’)
5th January 2021
The New Year has started with a Country-wide Covid lockdown. This means that there can be no group, band activity. It is hoped that as the vaccines take effect then maybe the restrictions can be eased and rehearsals recommence. With luck, maybe some performances, later.
